Foundational Aspects of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga Workshop Series

WorkahopJoin Jennifer Smith Yoga for a breakthrough, 4-part yoga workshop experience at Atlanta Hot Yoga…

-Use the strength of your legs effectively
-Harness the power of Bandhas
-Learn and Perfect Transitions from Asana to Asana in Practice
-Protect Your Shoulders and Back during Practice

In this 4-part series of workshops you will master the basics of practice through the exploration of various key foundational aspects of alignment, from transitions (namaskar, vinyasa), standing asana, strength builders, forward folds and backbends.

Each segment builds on its predecessor, and within Jennifer encourages and guides students to delve deeply through foundational aspects of practice which inevitably lead to meaningful and lasting transformation, on and off the mat.

-Workshops 1 & 2 emphasize breath, band has, surya namaskar, and standing asanas.
-Workshop 3: Features teachings on seated asanas, including forward folds, twists and strength builders.
-Workshop 4: You will be led toward the bliss and artful grasp of inversions and backbends.

For best results, we recommend students take part in all workshops, however, this is not a requirement.

Homework is assigned. Each session is suitable for ALL levels of practitioner, and whether you are a novice or experienced yogi, there’s plenty to learn and explore. The novice will be provided a template for safe, strong, flexible practice and the experienced yogi will learn to master the fundamentals which directly translate to an “advanced”, sustainable, inspired, deep asana practice.

$40 per session

Balance Yoga Co-Founder Launches Solo Project

IMG_2624After co-founding and co-directing Balance Yoga for 10 years, Jennifer Smith has ventured off on her own. Offering private and small group classes in her home studio, she is also a featured instructor at West Coast Workout and Atlanta Hot Yoga in Buckhead. In her Vinyasa flow classes, expect tapas, music, humor and an energetic flow that challenges and elevates. In her Ashtanga (both Mysore and led) classes, she strives to honor the practice and the lineage, while infusing the room with humor and kindness.

“After long consideration I knew that it was time for me to break out on my own,” said Jennifer Smith. “Through my own life experience including injury, aging, and surgery along with my personal experience on the mat and teaching, I have cultivated a warm and energetic style that is welcoming to anyone from the beginner to the advanced practitioner alike.”

Jennifer Smith has been practicing Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow yoga for over 14 years, while teaching for more than 13 years. Before starting this path, she received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt and then went back to school to get an MBA. While she enjoyed working in the corporate world, she quickly realized that she felt so strongly about the benefits of a steady yoga practice. Always a student, as well as a teacher, she has been lucky enough to study thousands of hours under tremendously talented senior teachers and continues to immerse herself in intensives each year with her Ashtanga teacher David Garrigues as well as train yoga teachers all over the country. It is through a slow, steady absorption of their wisdom as well as daily practice that she is able to teach the joy in the practice.
