My First Time: Moe’s Original Bar B Que  by Grown People Talking, Matthews, North Carolina

The Charlotte area’s offerings of barbecue continue to grow. I was invited last week to visit Moe’s Original Bar B Que, which opened in June in Matthews. The barbecue franchise started as a single restaurant in Colorado by three friends who met at the University of Alabama. That pretty much explains why today nearly all of the 26 locations are either located in Colorado or the South–Alabama, Georgia, Maine, North Carolina, and Tennessee (relatively speaking, the franchise has expanded rapidly over the last three years). Rance checked out Moe’s Original BBQ.  It’s the newest barbecue restaurant to open in the area and touts a different style.  It’s called Alabama style, but their owners say it’s a mix of cultures that make it more of a “Dixie” style.  Either way, Rance was determined to sink his teeth into the story. Moe’s Original Bar B Que Set to Bring Fresh from the Pit BBQ to Charlotte area

May 13, 2013 – After helping run the Moe’s Original Bar B Que in Asheville, Brian and Janeen Fairhurst teamed up with Brian’s brother Craig to bring the Southern Soul Food Revival in early June to 111 Matthews Station St in Matthews.  The Moe’s Original Bar B Que concept smokes meats fresh daily complemented by traditional Southern sides and desserts from recipes passed down for generations. It will also feature a kids menu, take out and full service catering for special events, parties, business events and luncheons as well as weddings of all sizes. The bar will offer 12 local and regional craft beers on tap, bottled domestics and a full premium bar. Moe’s Original Bar B Que will be the perfect local spot for families and friends getting together to enjoy some good ‘Que and  Southern hospitality.

“After deciding to look in the Charlotte area for restaurant locations, we fell in love with the quaint town of Matthews,” said co-owner Janeen Fairhurst. “We knew Moe’s Original Bar B Que would be a perfect fit in this great community.”

Modeled after a historic Matthews gas station, the look is very industrial with a beamed ceiling, exposed duct work, and concrete floors. The atmosphere is welcoming with an open kitchen and comfortable dining room that seats 90. With seven large bay doors with drop down screens, guests can enjoy dining overlooking the beautifully landscaped grounds. Front and side patios can seat 25 customers al fresco.

Founded in Vail, CO in 2001, Moe’s Original Bar B Que has expanded to 25 locations in five states. The award-winning restaurant features Alabama-style pulled pork, ribs, wings, turkey and chicken smoked over hardwood served with two unique sauces as well as southern favorites such as fried catfish and shrimp sandwiches. Opening for lunch and dinner from 11am daily, Moe’s Original Bar B Que takes pride in delivering the best tasting barbeque, fresh from the pit with Southern flair.
