The winning dish: Boeuf Bourguignon

Chef David Pan earned the Flavor Award at the Wharf Uncorked Food & Wine Festival in Orange Beach. As this chef’s style is traditional French cooking for current times, his winning dish was a Boeuf Bourguignon with Roasted Garlic Pomme Purée. Held in mid-September, the three day event combines tastings of delicious food and tantalizing wines, live entertainment, a pinch of southern flare and a dash of Gulf Coast hospitality.

“As flavor is the most important part of cuisine, it is quite an honor to win this particular award,” said Chef David Pan of Orange Beach Concierge. “Additionally, as sponsors for the entire festival, it is exciting to know that over $15,000 was raised for Make a Wish Alabama.”

14362612_1315169768505425_6843789311791452629_oChef David Pan’s specialty is French methods while remaining focused on the latest trends and techniques in the industry. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Mendota Heights, Chef Pan began his career at the 3 Diamond rated WA Frost in St. Paul under Chef Russell Kline. He expanded his culinary experience working with noted chefs at elite establishments that included the Minneapolis Club, James Beard winning Gustavus Inn, Fishers Orange Beach along with Brick and Spoon. Last year, he launched Orange Beach Concierge, one of the only private dining services in the area. While he is new to the coast, his culinary impact is already well known by his peers.

Moe’s Original Bar B Que Set to Open Two More South Alabama Restaurants

1466036_245002952347551_2080258404_nThe highly popular Moe’s Original Bar B Que will be adding two additional ventures to its three other area restaurants in Mobile, Daphne and Orange Beach. Opening in early March with drive thru service, the West Mobile location at 4672 Airport Blvd will be close to the University of South Alabama and the airport. Located in the heart of Foley at 20733 Miflin Road, this new eatery will start to serve customers in April. At both locations, guests can expect the menus to be the same as the other locations with the famous Alabama-style hand pulled pork, smoked chicken wings, turkey, fried shrimp and catfish, Memphis-style dry rubbed ribs and more, not to mention the favorite southern sides made from scratch daily. The design of both locations will have repurposed materials including reclaimed barn wood and oxidized tin that will give a rustic look to make each spot feel like they’ve been there forever. While both BBQ joints are family friendly, there will also be full bars complete with bushwackers, Alabama beers and more for the adults!

“We are very excited about the opening of these new restaurants and expanding our company’s reach in Baldwin and Mobile counties,” said co-owner Mark White. “Additionally, we plan on using as much fresh local seafood and produce as possible in all of this area’s stores.”

Recognized with many awards, Moe’s Original Bar B Que has been named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints in the U.S. by Relish and Top 10 BBQ Chains in America by USA Today and The Daily Meal. Years after learning to fire roast meats in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mike Fernandez, Ben Gilbert and Jeff Kennedy discovered a shared passion for BBQ and founded Moe’s Original Bar B Que in Vail, Colorado in 2001. Today, with 35 other locations in 10 states, the popular restaurant serves up an Alabama BBQ experience complete with Southern sides and desserts made fresh daily from recipes passed down for generations.
