Frenchie’s Now Open in Montgomery, AL’s Cloverdale Neighborhood

Frenchie’s, a new French-inspired cocktail bar and bistro, opened on June 13th at 514 B2 Cloverdale Road. Restaurateur Jud Blount and Chef Eric Rivera of Vintage Hospitality Group (Vintage Year, Vintage Cafe, Ravello & Red Bluff Bar) have partnered with Restaurateur Tyler Bell of Il Panificio (Dino’s, El Rey Burrito Lounge & Leroy) to offer a new spot to complement the existing restaurants and bars in the Cloverdale neighborhood. With limited seating, reservations are highly recommended while walk-ins can be accommodated at the bar on a first come, first served basis, and on the patio as weather permits. Currently, the hours are 4:30pm-10pm Monday through Thursday, and 4:30-11 pm on Friday and Saturday, Frenchie’s plans on opening on Sunday later this Summer or in the Fall.

“As Jud and I are lifelong friends who both grew up in Cloverdale, we know that Frenchie’s is a great addition to the neighborhood. It is a perfect place to meet a friend for a drink, have a snack or dinner, read a book at the bar or pop in for a nightcap,” states Bell. “While Frenchie’s menu is small, it covers the bases.”

Snacks such as smoked trout dip, calamari, a cheese plate and French onion dip are featured. Chef Rivera’s versions of classic bistro fare like croque monsieur, moules and steak frites rounds out the larger options. An ode to Birmingham’s Chez Fon Fon’s shrimp remoulade salad is offered and a crème brûlée can be found alongside a puff pastry. The drink menu focuses on classic cocktails and wines from small producers, primarily from France. By the glass options will remain relatively small, with a dozen or so wines available to drink at a time. Both restaurant groups are both well known for their wine collections, so guests can expect a well rounded cellar menu to be offered as the business matures.

Vintage Hospitality Group operates the fine-dining flagship restaurant, Vintage Year, as well as a coffee shop, daytime eatery and retail store, Vintage Café, in Montgomery’s historic Old Cloverdale neighborhood. Ravello Ristorante is its hot Italian establishment, along with several private event spaces located downtown. The company also owns the hydroponic farm MGM Greens and Red Bluff Bar, a venue that offers live music, beer, wine and small bites along the scenic Alabama riverfront. Vintage Hospitality Group’s national press accolades include receiving coverage in the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, PBS NewsHour, USA Today, Garden & Gun, Forbes and Newsweek Magazines.

Tyler Bell began his hospitality career in 1996 with operating Tomatinos Pizza and Cafe Louisa which he later sold in 2005.  A steady line of restaurants and bars followed including El Rey and the Olive Room.  In 2012, he developed the cocktail and beer bar Leroy, as well as L & E Oyster Bar in Los Angeles.  A couple of years later, Bell introduced the Mexican restaurant El Cóndor near the oyster bar.  Bell then opened Gold Line in 2018 with the record label Stones Throw and its founder DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, starting the trend of Japanese style record bars in the US.

Everything To Know About Moe’s Original BBQ’s Alabama-Style

Serving award-winning Alabama-style BBQ since 1988, Moe’s Original BBQ has set out to educate its customers about what makes Alabama-Style BBQ stand out from other regions. In Alabama, pork is the star of the show and Moe’s Original focuses on the shoulder, also known as the Boston butt, as well as ribs prepared St. Louis style that are well trimmed, competition cut and easy to eat. Its mouthwatering blend of spices is meticulously rubbed on the meat to give it a char and enhance the flavors while cooking. Moe’s slow-smokes its meat in a pit using oak and fruit hardwoods before being doused in a vinegar-based sop sauce to sweeten the meat and pull out the delicious flavors. Additionally, Moe’s Original BBQ highlights two sauces including a tangy, tomato based red sauce that is perfectly spiced and a zesty, mayo-based white sauce for topping or dipping. You can’t forget the pickles and slaw that round out making Alabama-style BBQ a favorite.

“Smoking meats and preparing all of our food from scratch daily is what sets us apart from many of our competitors,” said Moe’s Original BBQ Founding Partner Jeff Kennedy. “All of the founders grew up in Alabama and have worked hard to perfect Moe’s flavors to keep true to our heritage.”

9th Annual Firkin Festival Announced in Mobile, AL

Moe’s Original BBQ and Budweiser Busch Distributing announce the 9th Annual Firkin Festival to be held on Saturday, May 13th at 701 Spring Hill Avenue in downtown Mobile. Benefitting the Fuse Project, the craft beer event features local and regional breweries showcasing their creativity by adding unique flavors or spins on distinctive cask brewed ales. Firkins use a natural fermentation process to carbonate the beer. The liquid is typically served slightly below room temperature and will have a smoother, lighter carbonated body due to the natural carbonation process. This year’s participating breweries include Braided River, Fairhope, Oyster City, Back Forty, Ghost Train, Grayton, and Urban South.

“Each of the seven regional breweries are bringing a specialty beer that they have brewed just for this event,” said Ashley Wood, Craft Beer Manager for Budweiser-Busch Distributing. “They will be poured from a firkin, a barrel made of stainless steel that holds 10.8 gallons of beer.”

Doors for the festival will open at 2pm with a tapping ceremony at 2:30pm. Sampling ends at 5:30pm followed by an awards ceremony. Additionally, there will be live music from Fillmore’s Revival and cornhole competition. The all-inclusive Firkin Fest tickets are $25 in advance at eTix and Moe’s BBQ or $30 at door and includes entrance to the festival, samples of each firkin, crawfish, sample glass, koozie, literature, games and live music.

Recognized with many awards, Moe’s Original BBQ has been named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints in the U.S. by Relish and Top 10 BBQ Chains in America by USA Today and The Daily Meal. Served with red BBQ and Alabama white sauces, Moe’s Original BBQ’s award-winning smoked menu features pulled pork, ribs, wings, turkey, chicken, sausage as well as fish and shrimp. Down home Southern sides and tasty desserts complete the menu. The 7400 square foot venue is also a popular nightlife spot with full premium bars, high definition TVs and live music.
