MAC’N AT THE ‘DROME: A CONCERT FILM EXPERIENCE BENEFITING MAC LEAPHART IN CHARLESTON, SC

Poster design courtesy: Marius Valdes

On January 28, both local and national musicians will be sitting in for beloved singer and songwriter, Mac Leaphart, and performing his songs at The Hippodrome. Benefiting a man who has successfully made a career out of connecting with people through his music, proceeds will go to Mac in his ongoing recovery from a serious car accident and recent surgery to remove a brain tumor. A unique experience of camaraderie and good will, performances of Mac’s music will be set against a visual narration of the event on the theatre screen and give life to Mac’s story and his significant impact on those around him.

The concert features collaborative performances by Mark Bryan (Hootie and The Blowfish), Danielle Howle, Five Way Friday, John Wesley Satterfield, Joal Rush, Doug Jones (Craven Melon), Luke Cunningham, Greg Payne (The Piedmont Boys), Ryan Bonner, Jamie Resch with Shovels & Rope, Donnie Blackwell and more very special surprise guests. Reid Stone and Guilt Ridden Troubadour featuring members of Mac Leaphart’s current band, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company, will act as house band and musical conductors for the night’s celebration.

As doors open at 6:30 pm, acoustic music by Jim Marshall (Junkyard Angel) and a silent auction will start in the lobbies. Food concessions provided by Home Team BBQ and a full bar will run throughout the night. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the theater and will last until 10 pm followed by more live music by Five Way Friday and John Totaro’s Classic Woodies until 12 a.m. or later. Garage parking is available as well as free parking in the open lot adjacent to the venue.

Mac Leaphart is a singer/songwriter who plays a blend of country, rhythm and blues. The Charleston City Paper describes Mac as “a rowdy set, which seems to meld Gram Parsons with the ‘Sticky Fingers’ era Rolling Stones”. Since his arrival in Charleston in 2007, Leaphart has been performing over 250 shows a year, solo and with his band, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company. Give Mac a listen and see why Skope Magazine says, “This guy may just single handedly save country music.”

JAIL BREAK 2: An Arts and Music Festival Announced in Downtown Charleston

Charleston, SC, October 5, 2011 Entropy Arts & American College of Building Arts are proud to present JAIL BREAK 2 on Saturday, November 12th from noon-11pm at the Old City Jail at 21 Magazine St. An all encompassing arts festival established to provide an outlet for local artists to present their work, JAIL BREAK 2 will be held at one of the most unique venues in downtown Charleston where the jail will be converted into a gallery, displaying works by local visual artists and students from the ACBA as well as music and dance instillations from Dancefx Charleston and Annex Dance Company. Musical performances include The Hungry Monks, The Brillers, Weigh Station, Elise Testone and The Freeloaders, Shovels and Rope and Entropy Ensemble. Additionally, interactive festivities such as live painting, arts and crafts, and demonstrations of various building arts by ACBA students will be held outside in the main yard of the former jail. Food provided by Home Team BBQ and beverages from Ice Box Innovative Beverage Services will also be available throughout the festival. JAIL BREAK 2 is the perfect experience for all Charlestonians to admire Lowcountry talent, purchase artwork and talk with the artists directly while being really close to the stage for performances.

“I started Entropy Arts to focus on presenting innovative performing arts events that showcase collaboration between artists of different mediums including music, dance, visual art, writing, filmmaking and more,” stated festival organizer Andrews Walker. “It was a natural step to host an arts festival where diverse artists and audiences could come together to celebrate the arts.”

Advance tickets are $12 and are on sale now at www.showclix.com/event/JAILBREAK2. Tickets are $15 at the gate. This is an all ages event with kids under 12 admitted for free. Artists are subject to change without notice.
