Moe’s Original Bar B Que to Add 4th Birmingham Location in Trussville, AL

Adding to three Birmingham locations, Moe’s Original Bar B Que will bring it’s Alabama-style BBQ experience to 163 Main Street in downtown Trussville in early March. Opening for lunch and dinner from 11am daily, the award-winning fast casual restaurant features award-winning Alabama-style pulled pork, ribs, wings, turkey and chicken smoked over hardwood as well as Southern favorites such as fried catfish and a shrimp sandwich plus several traditional special sides and desserts made fresh daily. In addition to the 70 person rustic dining room with four HDTVs and Sono sound system, the laid back restaurant will also offer sidewalk seating, drive thru, large party takeout orders and full service catering for parties and events.

“We’re excited to open a location in Trussville as it is such a huge community that continues to grow,” said Moe’s Original Bar B Que co-owner Eric Witherington. “We have been trying to get there for years to open our BBQ concept, but just couldn’t find right spot until now.”

While brothers Kevin and Eric Witherington were partners at the Lakeview Oyster House, they were ready for a new challenge. When Kevin was on vacation in Vail, he spent some time with Alabama natives and founding partners of Moe’s Original Bar B Que, Mike Fernandez, Jeff Kennedy and Ben Gilbert while his brother Eric vacationed in Orange Beach where he also discovered the Southern soul food revival. After experiencing the thriving Alabama-style BBQ business, both saw an opportunity. The brothers opened their first Moe’s Original Bar B Que location in Vestavia where they both lived with their wives and three kids each. In addition to that one and the new Trussville restaurant, they also have BBQ spots in Hoover and Lakeview. With additional fast casual eateries in Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Maine and North Carolina, there are 21 Moe’s Original Bar B Que today.

Atlanta, GA- January 25, 2011 – Moe’s Original Bar B Que expands into its 17th and 18th locations in mid-February in downtown Auburn, Alabama at 125 East Magnolia Avenue and in early March in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia at 349 14th Street. Both of the new franchises will bring Moe’s award-winning Alabama-style BBQ offerings including Pulled Pork, Ribs, Wings, Chicken and Turkey in addition to Catfish, Mahi Mahi and a Shrimp Moe-Boy sandwich. Both designed with a rustic feel complete with staples of the South, the down home restaurants are comfortable and fun for students, families and professionals with indoor dining and patio seating. Additionally, there will be a lively nightlife scene with expansive, full premium bars, multiple high definition TVs and live music.

“Beyond the incredible food, there is a great sense of culture that goes along with the Moe’s Original Bar B Que brand and we found that appealing,” said Moe’s Atlanta co-owner Preston Smith. “With all of our Southern roots and love of football, our goal is to open a Moe’s in every SEC town,” said Moe’s Auburn owner John Moss.

In 1988, founding partner Mike Fernandez hooked up with Moses Day in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and began learning to fire roast meats. When Moe fired up his backyard barrel pit, everyone in T-Town knew where to go. Mike and his partners Ben Gilbert and Jeff Kennedy were lucky to learn from Moses and his distinct style makes up Moe’s original flavor of BBQ. Huntsville, AL March 29, 2010 – Moe’s Original Bar B Que is proud to announce its 13th location opening on Monday, April 5th at 2030 Cecil Ashburn Drive Suite 109 in Jones Valley Station. Featuring award-winning Bama-style BBQ smoked over white oak and served with two unique sauces, the restaurant also prepares eight to ten Southern sides and tasty desserts. Moe’s location in Huntsville will have four flat screen TVs for sports viewing, a patio with picnic tables, views of the mountains and Jones Valley, not to mention acoustic music on some weekends.

“As Huntsville is a young, energetic scene, we wanted to bring this smokin’ BBQ joint for customers to enjoy with friends, family and a cold beer,” said Moe’s Huntsville co-owner Mike Ellis. “Additionally, we will be offering special event catering and large party take out orders with delivery.”
