Mark the 10th Anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center at the First 9/11 Victory Run around Chastain Park on Sunday, September 11. This will be a day to salute our veterans and soldiers, honor the lives of those lost on September 11, 2001 and celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans. The 5K Run/Walk starts and ends at the Ryan P. Means Legion Hut located on the South end of Chastain Park, off Powers Ferry Rd. All Proceeds will benefit American Legion Post 140, a treasured gathering place for veterans with a growing membership from those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Ryan Means was quite a man and truly an inspiration to others. After Ryan lost his best friend on September 11th in the World Trade Center attacks, he felt he had to do something. So, Ryan enlisted in the Army as a recruit and advanced to Special Forces by the age of 32. His motto was, “Keep on rockin’ in the free world.” While serving in Iraq, Ryan was diagnosed with cancer and on July 7, 2009, Ryan passed away. While he died too young at the age of 35, Ryan fought hard and was able to be at the birth of his second daughter right before he passed.
