Atlanta Improv Hosts Military Supply Drive

Through December 18th, anyone who brings military provisions to the Atlanta Improv for those serving overseas during the holidays will receive two free tickets to any non-special Improv event through December 30th, 2015. Suggested donations include DVDs, books, magazines, board games, cards, energy bars, socks, workout clothes, undershirts, deodorant, candy, cigarettes, and more. Additionally, military personnel and their families also have the opportunity to see the Michael Kosta show on Thursday, December 11th 8pm at no charge with valid military ID.

“With a military boyfriend who is deported for a year, I understand how hard it is for him to live without day to day necessities,” said organizer Sarah Spicer. “I started this drive to do something for the men and women that serve our county to make their holidays a little brighter.”

The Improv was founded by Budd Friedman in New York in 1963 and has the Who’s Who of American comedy. The Atlanta Improv Comedy Club & Dinner Theatre features national touring comics as well as Open Mic each week. Upcoming acts include Michael Kosta 12/11-12/13, Norm Macdonald 12/18-12/20, Reformed Whores 12/26-12/27, Owen Benjamin 12/31 & 1/2 -1/3, Brian Posehn 1/8-1/10, Harland Williams 1/22- 1/24, Sebastian Maniscalco and 1/29-1/31.

The Love=Hope Foundation presents 2nd Annual Benefit for Spinal Muscular Atrophy – Fight SMA Jam

The Love=Hope Foundation is please to announce the 2nd Annual Benefit for Spinal Muscular Atrophy – Fight SMA Jam on Monday, December 30 from 4-8pm at SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta, GA.

Tickets are $25 general admission in advance, $35 at the door or a limited amount of $50 VIP in advance. With the price of admission everyone will get continuous service of delicious SweetWater brews, a collector’s SweetWater pint glass, one raffle ticket and tons of live music. VIP tickets include an open liquor bar and food.

Additionally, there will be vendors selling their wonderful goods and plenty of food trucks in the parking lot. Prizes will be raffled off throughout the event starting at 5 ish. Giveaways include a pair of Widespread Panic’s Tunes for Tots and New Year’s Eve tickets raffles.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) refers to a group of diseases which affect the motor neurons of the spinal cord and brain stem. These critically important cells are responsible for supplying electrical and chemical messages to muscle cells. Without the proper input from the motor neurons, muscle cells can not function properly. The muscle cells will, therefore, become much smaller (atrophy) and will produce symptoms of muscle weakness.

Belle de Jour Salon to Donate Percentage of Sales to CURE Childhood Cancer

As September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Belle de Jour Salon is donating 10% of all services provided this month to CURE Childhood Cancer. Additionally, the Buckhead boutique salon will host BLOW OUT Saturday offering free Blowouts and Make-up touch ups on Saturday, September 28th from 10am-6pm by appointment. A minimum donation of $35 to Cure Childhood Cancer is suggested.

“As a mom of a child that survived cancer, I know the importance of the money needed for research,” said Belle de Jour Salon owner Andrea Goldklang. “CURE Childhood Cancer has an extra special place in my heart as it is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research and through support of patients and their families.”

Texas Hold’Em Tournament to Benefit Chastain Horse Park and SafeRide America

Chastain Horse Park and SafeRide America present a Texas Hold’Em Tournament on Thursday, July 14 at 7pm at Chastain Horse Park Clubhouse, located at 4371 Powers Ferry Road. Entry requires $200 tax-deductible donation to Chastain Horse Park/SafeRide America. All participants will receive complimentary food from Moe’s Original Bar B Que and beer that beginning an hour before play. In addition, SafeRide America will be offering all participants complimentary (tip only) SafeRides where you and your car will be driven home on the evening of the tournament. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit disabled children through Chastain’s therapeutic riding programs, help children injured or orphaned in impaired driving crashes and be used to expand low cost/no cost SafeRide services locally.

With a $200 entry fee, every participant will start with 1000 chips.

The first big blind = 20 (1/50 of the 1000 starting chip amount).
The final big blind = 1000 (the starting chip amount) at the 4 hour mark using 20 minute levels.
Blinds to increase every 20 minutes from 20 to 1000 .

Additionally, there will be over $20k in total prizes. A partial list of giveaways include:

Chastain Horse Park is a non-profit organization providing services for children and adults with disabilities, children-at-risk, and children from the inner city. SafeRide America is a social enterprise program that effectively provides a proven, practical and affordable answer to stopping impaired driving incidents before they happen. Their professional drivers work in teams of two where one driver will drive with you in the comfort of your own vehicle while the other driver follows behind in the chase car. SafeRide America is a non-profit, driver-for-hire, public service designed to help prevent all types of impaired driving.
