Great Firkin Festival featuring Eric Lindell and Keller Williams in Mobile, AL

FirkinThe inaugural Great Firkin Fest will invade downtown Mobile on Saturday, April 5th at Moe’s Original Bar B Que, located at 701 Spring Hill Road. With participation from local and regional breweries, each will showcase distinctive cask ale in a firkin, a barrel made of stainless steel that holds 10.8 gallons of beer. Firkins are unique in the sense that the beer goes through a secondary fermentation in the vessel. Participating breweries are Blue Pants Brewery (Madison, Alabama), Back 40 Beer Co. (Gadsden, Alabama), Southern Prohibition Brewing (Hattiesburg, Mississippi), Cahaba Brewing (Birmingham, Alabama), Druid City Brewing (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), Yellowhammer Brewing (Huntsville, Alabama), Fairhope Brewing Co. (Fairhope, Alabama), Brew Stooges (Huntsville, Alabama), Rocket Republic Brewing (Huntsville, Alabama) and Tallgrass Brewing (Manhattan, Kansas).

“Budweiser-Busch Distributing wanted to team up with Moe’s to introduce a specialized beer festival to the south Alabama area that not only shines the spotlight on cask ales but also the brewing talents of these local and regional breweries,” said Sarah Cure, Craft Manager for Budweiser-Busch Distributing. “Brewers typically have some fun with the creations and include interesting additions such as cocoa nibs, hot peppers, fresh whole-cone hops, orange peel, and more to accentuate the beer’s profile.”

Door open at 12pm with tapping at 12:30pm and awards for Best in Show and People’s Choice at 4pm. There will be live music during the event by Eric Lindell with headliner Keller Williams starting at 9pm. Tickets for Firkin only: $22 ADV/$25 DOS (include admission, a sampling glass, festival literature and a koozie), Keller show only: $22ADV/$25 DOS or both events: $32ADV/$35 DOS and are on sale here. Money raised will go to benefit the local American Cancer Society.

Located in the upper part of Dauphin in downtown Mobile, the 7400 square foot Moe’s Original Bar B Que features a hot nightlife scene with full premium bars, high definition TVs and an entertainment venue that showcases live music from top bands. Named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints and BBQ Chains in America, Moe’s Original Bar B Que has 29 other locations in AL, CO, FL, GA, ME, NC, OH and TN.
