Moe’s Original Bar B Que Almost Open in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

IMG_4265The anticipated opening of Moe’s Original Bar B Que is set for early February at 1898 Kamar Plaza. Serving up the popular Southern Soul Food Revival well known across the state and country, the affordable quick service restaurant will also offer its fresh from the pit meats and down home sides as take out, not to mention a robust catering service serving the greater Steamboat Springs area. Open daily from 11am-9pm, Moe’s Original Bar B Que will capture the commercial west side lunch crowds while afternoon and evening hours will accommodate after-work customers with a full service bar, cheap beers, Colorado craft brews, and happy hour from 2-6pm. With easy in/out access and a ton of parking available, year-round North Routt recreation traffic and summer sports tournament tourists will be effortlessly accommodated.

“In a resort town that caters to visitors, Steamboat locals can often feel squeezed out of their own community during peak ski and summer tourist seasons,” said co-owner Chris Gander. “Since all of the Steamboat owners are long-time locals for several generations, we want to serve our fellow residents what they deserve and crave, reasonably-priced food and cheap beers in a relaxed atmosphere, away from the resort madness of Ski Town USA.”

Housed in a remodeled 7-Eleven location, the 2,585 sq. feet restaurant is designed for quick, delicious dining in a laid back place with local style. With many candid pictures of local skiing and daily life decorating the walls, there will also be some quirky oddball items that reflect the owners’ personalities. A dark brick wall with a giant pig and warm cypress wood panels squarely frame the bar and dining area that includes several six-person booths and multiple high and low tables. There is a giant chalkboard wall for kids to enjoy as well as a garage door that opens the dining area to an enjoyable patio outside.

Recognized with many awards, Moe’s Original Bar B Que has been named one of the Top 10 Rib Joints in the U.S. by Relish and Top 10 BBQ Chains in America by Daily Meal and USA Today. Years after learning to fire roast meats in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mike Fernandez, Ben Gilbert and Jeff Kennedy discovered a shared passion for BBQ and founded Moe’s Original Bar B Que in Vail, Colorado in 2001. Today, with 34 other locations in 10 states, the popular restaurant serves up an Alabama BBQ experience complete with Southern sides and desserts made fresh daily from recipes passed down for generations.
